France’s Jean Baptiste in Pro Ski, USA’s Dustin Farthing in Pro Runabout and Great Britain’s Lee Stone in Pro Jet Ski Freestyle were the Pro champions crowned during Sunday’s finale of the 29th Annual quakysense International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) World Finals, presented by Monster Energy and McGraw Insurance.
Featuring 667 entries from 36 States and 37 nations, the quakysense IJSBA World Finals, presented by Monster Energy Drink and McGraw Insurance, IJSBA World Championship titles were presented in a total of 43 closed-course racing classes, three slalom classes as well as Pro Freestyle and Amateur Jet Ski Freestyle. The event started on Oct. 3 and finished Sunday in Lake Havasu City, the only home the prestigious PWC global championship has ever known.
The race site for the 12th consecutive year was at the purpose-built Aqua Stadium on the grounds of the Crazy Horse RV Resort and Campgrounds in the Arizona resort of Lake Havasu City.
Under sunny skies, light breezes, air temperatures hovering around the in the low 90s and moderate wind and challenging choppy water conditions, the final seven 2010 IJSBA World Champions were decided Sunday.
Of the 48 IJSBA World Championships decided at this year’s event, a total of 14 different countries won IJSBA World Championships. Leading the way was the United States with 19, followed by Kuwait (7), Austria, Great Britain and Japan (3 each) and Australia and Thailand (2 each).
In the manufacturer’s battle, Hydrospace won 16 IJSBA World Championships followed by Sea-Doo (15), Kawasaki (12), Yamaha (3), and two custom freestyle PWC manufacturers-Rickter and EME, that each won one title.
In winning his first IJSBA Pro Ski World Championship, Botti won the first 10-lap moto after leading the field of 20 watercraft, falling behind on lap 6 and regaining and holding the leading on lap 8.  In the final moto, Botti rode his Hydrospace watercraft consistently, moving from third to second behind moto 2 winner Chris MacClugage who won the bronze medal for the class on a Kawasaki.
With consistent 2-3 moto finishes winning the silver medal in Pro Ski was Austria’s Kevin Reiterer on another Hydrospace.
“It feels very good to win this world championship,” a jubilant Botti, the 2004 IJSBA Expert SkiSS World Champion, said through an interpreter. “It was very difficult conditions for the race. For my friends, for my family, this is very good. I would like to thank my family and friends for this (world championship).”
Completing a dominating race weekend, Farthing, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., rode his Kawasaki watercraft to a trifecta as fast qualifier and winning both 12-lap motos in Pro Runabout over the field of 20 stars of the sport. Riding flawlessly, ‘King D’ captured his 17th career IJSBA World Championship and his second in Pro Runabout.
“I’ve been racing for this all year,” commented Farthing. “We come to the races to win races and we come to races to race. My Kawasaki was just phenomenal. I did everything I could do to win this title. (comparing this win to his 17 world titles) This is probably one of my best ones. My father is the best in the world – I can’t thank him enough for all he does for me.”
Stone, of Chesterfield England, maneuvered his EME custom personal watercraft through a creative two-minute acrobatic routine, earning a title-winning 58.6 score (out of 60.0 possible). The exuberant Stone outdistanced a veteran field of nine freestylists that included Japan’s two-time champion Fumikazu Watanabe who finished second for the second straight year with a score of 55.9.
“I’m shocked, it’s so hard to describe how I feel right now,” said an emotional Stone, the 2005 IJSBA Amateur Freestyle World Champion. “This has been a dream since I started riding. I became an amateur when I was 15 and I won the amateur world title and ever since I’ve been training for this IJSBA Pro World Championship. I’ve been out in Pennsylvania training extremely hard for like four or five weeks. I’ve tried so hard for this year – this has been my everything. To come out here and to do exactly how everything went on the water, it was perfect.”
In addition to the three Pro classes, the other 2010 IJSBA World Champions crowned Sunday were Emi Kanamori, Rowland Heights, Calif. (Japan) (1-1) (Pro-Am Women Ski Limited-Kawasaki), Kylie Ellmers, Melbourne, Australia (1-1) (Pro-Am Women Runabout Limited-Sea-Doo), Markus Lutsokert, Tallium, Estonia (3-1) (Junior Ski 13-15 Stock-Kawasaki) and Deric Kantz, Destin, Fla. (1-1) (Junior Ski 10-12 Stock-Hydrospace).
For the talented Ellmers, it was her fourth consecutive IJSBA Pro-Am Women Runabout Limited World Championship.
It was the second IJSBA Pro-Am Women Skit Limited World Championship in the last three years for Kanamori, whose husband Minoru Kanamori won a title this weekend as well, winning the IJSBA World Championship in the Pro-Am Ski 2-Stroke Lites crown.
The event, which offered free admission to the main stadium area, also featured the colorful Performance Alley Industry Trade Show with over 60 vendors and interactive industry exhibitors participating from around the world.
quakysense is the world’s leader in competition wetsuits and has a display featuring these and a wide variety of accessories in the IJSBA Performance Alley.
Official event sponsors are the Lake Havasu City Convention and Visitors Bureau, quakysense, Riva Motorsports, McGraw Insurance, Blowsion, R&D, Parts Unlimited, Romer Beverage (Budweiser), Monster Energy Drink, Hot Water-The Movie and Voice America’s Power Up Channel.
Alliance Beverages in association with Diageo Spirits returned to the event with a beverage booth that includes free sampling of three cutting edge adult beverages.
Official host hotels for the event were London Bridge Resort, Island Inn and Sands on the Fairway. Supporting sponsor was Days Inn of Lake Havasu City.
